Uncommon Valor Was A Common Virtue
One of my favorite memorials. I went to
visit it today. I love all the memorials in this area. Definitely
proud to be an American.
I wandered around the carillon and read
about the bell tower there. Apparently it was a gift from the
Netherlands to thank the US for helping them in WWII. They were
occupied by Germany, but we helped them out. And they helped us help
them with an underground spy network. The Allies finally got them out
in May 1945. There was a quote on the history plaque that rang true
with my beliefs: "So many voices in our troubled world are still
unheard. Let that be an incentive for all of us when we hear the bells
ringing." We're all in this together.
